Why did my EA miss a trade? The common causes and fixes

The strategy fired and your account stayed flat. These are the usual reasons, in the order worth checking them.

You saw a signal on the feed but no trade on your account. Before assuming something is broken, work through this list. Most causes take a minute to check.

1. The terminal wasn't running

An EA only works while MetaTrader is open and online. If your PC went to sleep, restarted or lost its connection, it couldn't place the trade. This is the most common cause, and the reason many traders use a VPS.

2. Algo Trading is off

Check the Algo Trading button on MetaTrader's toolbar, and check that the EA's own settings allow it to trade. MetaTrader can also switch it off after certain changes.

3. The symbol name differs

Your broker may list gold as XAUUSD.m or GOLD. If the EA can't match the name, it can't trade that market. Compare the name in Market Watch with your EA settings.

4. Not enough margin

Accounts with low leverage on gold or indices can refuse an order that doesn't fit the free margin. MetaTrader's Journal tab will show a "no money" style of error. Lower the risk or add margin.

5. Your own rules stopped it

A daily loss limit, trading-hours filter or maximum open trades setting may have done exactly what you asked it to. Check your settings before you look for a fault.

6. The market was closed or the price had moved

Brokers close some markets at certain hours, and spreads widen around the daily rollover and news. An order can also be refused if the price has moved too far.

Where to look

  • Experts tab: what the EA says it did
  • Journal tab: what the terminal and broker said
  • Client Portal: your LogicFlux execution history shows what your EA reported for each signal

If you still can't find it, contact support with the time of the signal, your account number and a copy of those log lines.
